The Onion Foundation makes grants to organizations whose work aligns with its mission: to build a more equitable and healthy Maine by deepening the connection of all people to the arts and nature.
Arts Program
The Onion Foundation Arts Program seeks to connect Maine residents to arts experiences, with a focus on supporting arts-mission nonprofit organizations offering ongoing events and educational opportunities.
In 2024, applications for both large and small grants were due on March 13th and September 18th.
In 2025, applications for both large and small grants will be due on March 12th and September 10th.
Environment Program
The Onion Foundation Environment Program aims to enable all Maine residents, especially in rural areas, to enjoy the state's natural resources and to develop the knowledge, skills, and motivation to protect Maine's environment. Rather than supporting land acquisition and capital projects, the Environment Program focuses its resources on the people of Maine, whose lives and behaviors will shape environment and climate change outcomes.
